Micah Lomel‘s label design for Vannucci wine captures Sonoma Valley’s sunlit, floral landscapes with a delicate simplicity. The floral label elevates the bottle into a true piece of art, representing the beauty of wildflower-lined vineyard rows.
Printed on a textured, canvas-like label, the artwork mirrors Vannucci’s dedication to regenerative farming and deep appreciation for the role of nature. The lack of typography and the rich hues of the label create space for wine to be appreciated on a deeper level. It’s whimsical, but in a grounded way.
Design mirrors taste with Vannucci Vineyards newest label. Vibrant, refreshing, and entirely local, California wildflowers seed the inspiration for their introduction into Sauvignon Blanc.
Bright florals and sun-soaked afternoons are a staple of the Sonoma Valley landscape. Vannucci sought to celebrate this iconic region while layering the design with an expression of gratitude for the viticulture practices it cherishes. Regenerative farming aims to minimize human intervention, allowing nature to regulate. Local wildflower, grasses, and legumes are introduced to maintain soil temperature, boost soil fertility, and control pests. Come spring, a beautiful floral array lines the rows of the vineyards — a welcomed visual byproduct of the practice.
To capture this appreciation, Vannucci collaborated with talented painter and illustrator, Micah Lomel, who reimagined the vineyard as both an agricultural and artistic canvas. Tapping into the spirit of plein-air painters, this ‘painted landscape’ recalls sun-filled days spent outdoors. Emulating the wildflower-lined vineyard rows, we chose to extend the artwork vertically across the full length of the canvas to reflect this return to natural practices.
Labels were printed on a 70# Felt Weld substrate with a matte varnish to enhance the textured, canvas-like appearance of the design. A deep charcoal backdrop was chosen to allow the contents in-bottle and the flowers on-label to shine. Ultimately, this paint-inspired label captures the spirit of rewilding as a nod to nature’s role in shaping the vineyard’s profile.
